Megan Anna Rapinoe was born on the 5th of July, 1985, in Redding California. She started playing soccer from a very young age and developed her game during her teenage years. Rapinoe played for a short time playing for Sydney Football Club FC (Australian W-League) in 2011, before returning home to United States. The Seattle Washington Sounders Women, which is now Sound FC, were her next team. In 2013, Rapinoe spent her time playing soccer in France. She was part of the Seattle Reign FC - now OL Reign - of the National Women's Soccer League NWSL that was established after the WPS was disbanded, and later became her team. Rapinoe was soon a top scorer for the team and was eventually named captain. Rapinoe's FIFA Women's World Cup debut was in the year 2011. The contributions of Rapinoe helped to help the U.S. Women's World Cup to take home two titles in the years 2019 and 2015. In 2018 she became cocaptain for the U.S. national team. Rapinoe was able to score two goals in the United States beat Australia 4-3 in the bronze medal game during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Japan had been prevented from attending to the Olympics until 2021 due COVID-19, a pandemic.
